About the Project

Government of Arunachal Pradesh (GoAP) awarded the Demwe Hydro Electric Project with an installed capacity of 3000 MW, under Public Private Partnership (PPP) model through bidding process on BOOT basis for a period of 40 years to M/s Athena Energy Ventures Pvt Ltd (AEVPL). The State Government signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with AEVPL on 9th July, 2007. AEVPL has formed a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) company namely M/s Athena Demwe Power Limited (ADPL) for the implementation of the Project.

Demwe HEP is part of Arunachal Pradesh’s Lohit river cascade development scheme. Lohit is one of the major tributaries of the Brahmaputra River that flows through India’s verdant Northeastern region. The Project is being developed in two stages i.e. Demwe Lower HEP located near Parasuramkund and Demwe Upper HEP near Mompani village.

The project will significantly enhance the quality of life of local people by way of development of infrastructure like roads, communications, employment, and secondary benefits like boost to tourism etc. On completion, Demwe Lower Hydro Electric Project is expected to provide around 6322 MU in 90% dependable year and 9593 MU in average dependable year at 95% plant availability.
